Hi! Today I wanted to chat a little bit about the importance of how & where we spend our money, and why we should be supporting small, sustainable & ethical businesses. This is also a review of the EcoHonesty Gift box which I was recently gifted. They’re an awesome small business who make it super easy to shop sustainable brands & products! With the code Jess15, you can get 15% off on their gift boxes and everything on the store page here. There are some really great products – perfect for Plastic Free July!
Why We Should Support Small Businesses
In the UK, there are over 5.8 million small businesses! The majority of them are run by just one person and they account for about half of the turnover in the private sector. They pay their taxes, add to local communities and give people the chance to change their lives. They’re run by real people, not stockholders or boards and your purchase can make their day, you’re not just a number to them.
Shopping locally is much more ethical and sustainable than just hopping on Amazon and buying something mass-produced. We need to spend our money with smaller companies, especially those who’re focusing on being more eco-friendly and who are owned by BIPOC people, without whom the sustainable movement wouldn’t exist.
About Eco Honesty
Eco Honesty is a new online market place who sells sustainable, ethical & eco-friendly products at reasonable prices. They believe that saving the planet shouldn’t cost the earth and are working to combat two things: greenwashing and greenflation.
Greenwashing is becoming a major problem and describes the difficulty that we, the consumers, have in knowing if something is truly sustainable and deciphering the language that a brand uses to understand it’s true meanings. This is a common issue with brands that do things like a ‘conscious collection’ – and we shouldn’t be expected to be experts on sustainability just to be able to buy an ethically made t-shirt!
Greenflation is something less talked about, but equally important. One of the reasons that sustainable living isn’t accessible to a lot of people is the cost and Eco Honesty want to make sustainability affordable. A lot of people don’t have the option to even think about being more sustainable in their life and we need to work on making it a universal and inclusive movement. Whilst sustainable products will cost a little more than those you find on the highstreet (due to paying fair wages and and being environmentally friendly), some items do have a premium pricetag. We can also see greenflation in the second-hand / vintage shopping industry. Since the demand for preloved clothing has grown, sellers (both online and in store) have been hiking their prices up which directly impacts people who need to shop second-hand.

The Gift Box
Eco Honesty only accepts brands who are striving to make a positive environmental change, and who create amazing products at fair prices.
They sell some amazing products by themselves, but if you’re looking for a gift to give your sustainably-minded loved one, yourself or are wanting to start your sustainably journey – then the gift box is a great option.
There are a few versions depended on what you’re looking for, but I tried the Larger than Life one. There are 7 products and some are customisable for flavours / scents. Here’s what I recieved…
This was a really cool product to try, as I’m always looking for alternatives to toothpaste tubes. I’ve tried toothpaste tabs before and they worked okay, but were a tad chalky. I really liked the texture of the truth paste and loves that it came in a reusable / recyclable glass tub. My only concern is that it doesn’t contain fluoride but I need to do some more research on that…
If you’re like me and love chocolate, this is a great addition to the box! I tried the white chocolate & raspberry pigs which are organic, palm-oil free & Fairtrade certified. The packaging is also compostable or recyclable and they’re vegetarian.
Essential Creams’ Lipbalm & Moisturiser
I received the Peach and Passionflower Moisturiser and the Cherry Lip balm. Again, I loved the glass tub which I can reuse and the lip balm in a little metal tin. There are a few variations available and I really find both products great. I think the moisturiser is meant for your face but I’m not the biggest fan of using anything heavily scented on my face so I’ve been using it on my body and it is amazing; smells so good and is really moisturising.
I’ve been using an eco egg for over a year now and I am fully converted. It’s an amazing alternative to standard laundry detergent and the egg itself lasts for 10 years which means you’ll be using a lot less plastic! They don’t use any harsh chemicals and are suitable for sensitive skin.
I love a candle and this one is no exception. The scent I received was quite Christmassy (Cranberry, Orange & Cinnamon) so I’m excited to use it later in the year. They’re made in Cornwall with soy wax which is vegan and non-toxic. It has a 25 hour burn time, and comes in a super cute amber glass which is also reusable – maybe I’ll make my own candle!
This is a very necessary product at the moment! I tested the tea tree & lemongrass antibacterial hand-wash which is made palm-oil free and with organic certified essential oils. It’s a 500ml bottle so will be perfect for refilling your current hand wash bottle for months to come.
I’d love to know what product you’d love to receive, let me know in the comments!
I hope that you’ll check out Eco Honesty and support their ethical venture alongside any other sustainable small businesses that you come across! You can check out their fab selection of products here and get a cheeky discount with the code Jess15!
Bye for now!
