Hello! A super easy switch to make to reduce the amount of plastic in our bathrooms is using shampoo and conditioner bars. They can save a couple of plastic bottles per bar, and last for a long time so can work out pretty cheap in the end. Here are 10 zero-waste hair care options:
I was gifted both a shampoo and conditioner bar to follow the curly girl method and they work so well! My hair isn’t frizzy and feels really moisturised. The formula is vegan, plastic-free and also doesn’t have any sulphates, silicones or parabens.
Ethique also offers shampoo and conditioners, among other beauty-focused bars. They have a wide range of bars for different hair types as well as various scent options. They’re zero-waste, carbon neutral, vegan, palm-oil and cruelty free.
Grüum have a few shampoo bar options, but only one conditioner bar. They’re a unisex skincare brand and their bars are vegan, cruelty-free, made in the UK and contain no plastic. They’re a much more affordable option and last for about 60 washes.
A high street staple, Lush have been offering their ‘naked’ products for a while now. Being a bigger brand, they have lots of options for many hair types and other treatments, like henna dye or deep conditions. Lush is, of cruelty-free, and mainly vegan – so check each product inividually.
A budget option, which also offers a fragrance-free shampoo bar, friendly soap is great for seeing in shampoo bars are gonna be your jam or not.
Earth Kind only offer shampoo bars, and they have 3 to choose from. The bars are vegan, made with sustainable ingredients, are plastic-free and made in the UK. Again, they’re on the cheaper side so great for testing the waters or for those on a budget.
Koha is a ‘one-size fits all’ kinda deal, with just one option for the shampoo and conditioner bar. They also sell a very handy aluminium tin which is perfect for travelling with your bars.
Rush Organics offers a very colourful and varied mix of bars, so there’s something for every hair type. They also offer shampoo & conditioner bar pairings which are handy. They’re plastic-free, vegan & 100% organic.
This is another one with limited options, there’s only a shampoo bar available, however, it does come in an aluminium tin which is convenient. It’s safe for coloured hair and aims to make your hair smooth and manageable.
With cute (and plastic-free) packaging, and 3 scent options, Hairy Jayne is a great option for those who don’t need have a high-maintenance hair type. All the shampoo & conditioner bars are vegan, cruelty-free & natural. You can also add on a tin!
