Hi! Welcome to my blog. I’m on #5 of the Italy diaries which is crazy! I’ve been here for almost 6 months now and I’m still loving my year abroad. I went home for 2 weeks at Christmas, but here is what I got up to in January and the beginning of February.
I’ve been doing an Italian course for 4/5 months now and I think my language skills are definitely improving. Obviously being constantly immersed is helping and I understand a lot more than I can speak – Italian is really tough! I’m also using apps like Duo-lingo to learn more vocabulary but the grammar is pretty tough to grasp. I’m hoping I’ll be able to practise some more over the next month and get to a conversational level!
My Weekend Travels
January was my birthday month so I took myself to Nice for a weekend to celebrate. I had such a fun time visiting Nice, Monaco & Antibes and hearing another language that wasn’t Italian!
I also took a day trip to Pisa to see the leaning tower which was so cool. Being able to just hop on the train to Tuscany is something that I don’t take for granted!
At the beginning of February, I did a really random but cool thing and got to go inside of the Monumental Bridge which is on the main high street in Genoa. The weekend after, I visited my friend in Florence and ate a bunch of vegan food, went thrift shopping and visited the Inside Magritte exhibition which was so fun! Check out my alternative guide to Florence to see what we got up to.

I had such a great few weeks! I was feeling refreshed after taking a break over Christmas and have managed to visit a bunch of places which is so fun. Next month I’m doing a week long trip around Northern Italy and am heading to Venice, Trieste, Ljubljana & Verona. If you have any tips for things to do in those places please let me know in the comments!
Bye for now x
